Overcoming the Dark Side of Ambition with Jeremy Fulwiler

From the outside it looked like a failure. Leaving New York City and a prestigious job in social work administration to move to metro Detroit where he had no job and no community.  But when I asked him, he said it was one of the most important decisions he’s made.

Jeremy Fulwiler is a body psychotherapist , a poet, an amazing dancer and a marathoner. He now runs a thriving therapy practice, Wellness Beyond Words, and has a beautiful community in Detroit. I woke up at 5 am feeling heavy…

I woke up at 5 am this morning with a heaviness in my chest. I put my hand on my heart and tried to breathe into the tension. I breathed deeply into my belly. I listened to the memoir I’m loving, Present over Perfect, for half an hour. And eventually the tension released enough that I could go back to sleep.

Trying to Be Everything to Everyone? Do this.

I lay in bed with mixed emotions. For one second I would feel so happy and cozy to be tucked in bed and the next my chest would feel tight and I’d feel overcome with guilt.

It had been a long hard day at work and all I wanted to do was lie in bed watching episode after episode of Say Yes to the Dress. But I had cancelled dinner with a friend and it was wracking me with guilt.
